FAQ

Why should I Consider Studying Religious Science?

There is a Power for Good in the Universe greater than you are and you can use it! As a Divine being, you are the master of your destiny. Science of Mind, which is studied, taught, and applied in Religious Science Churches, is a system of mental and spiritual principles, combined with techniques for the application of these principles. The consistent application of these techniques results in health, satisfying relationships, enhanced creativity, and prosperity. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “the ancestor of every action is a thought.” When you apply the Science of Mind techniques to change your thinking, your life will change around you in ways that will seem almost magical both to you and to those who know you.

What Does Your “V” Symbol Mean?

The circle is divided by two lines into three levels. The upper level represents the Universal All-Originating Spirit, God. The middle level represents the Universal Subjective Mind, which is the medium of all thought, and the lower level represents that which we, from our present viewpoint, refer to as the Physical Universe. The V which descends from the upper, through the middle, to the lower level, represents the manner in which Spirit, through Thought, manifests as all physical forms and beings.

Who was Ernest Holmes?

What About Meditation?

Meditation is a time honored approach to taming, training and transforming the mind, thereby increasing one’s experience of peace of mind and sense of connection with Spirit. Religious Science endorses meditation, from creative visualization to more traditional mind stilling techniques.

What About Prayer?

Religious Science honors and endorses all forms of sincere prayer. In addition, it teaches a unique and scientific form of prayer called Spiritual Mind Treatment. This is a powerful, affirmative method of prayer that was developed by Dr. Ernest Holmes, the founder of Religious Science.

What is the Difference Between Prayer and Meditation?

Briefly, prayer is a way of expressing ourselves to Spirit or God, and meditation is listening for the reply.

What is An Affirmation?

The term affirmation is normally associated with a verbal statement that is made about some goal that we are trying to achieve, or some experience we desire to have. However, the act of affirmation is really much more than that. It is an act of faith. It is the ability to put aside your doubt and fear in order to act as if your desired goal were already a reality. In this sense, an affirmation can be any statement, act, or symbolic gesture that affirms the reality of your intentions.

What About Sin?

The original meaning of sin was simply to fall short of or “miss the mark” of spiritual perfection. A sin is not a thing, it is merely an activity that produces an undesirable effect in our lives. In other words, we are punished by our sins, not for them.

What About Evil?

Religious Science does not deny the appearance of evil. However, it teaches that evil does not exist as a force or power in the world. The only Power in the universe is God, which is always Good. The appearance of evil results when we withhold our expression and experience of that good by holding false beliefs in our minds.

What does Religious Science believe about Heaven?

Heaven is neither a physical place nor even a spiritual place. It is simply the state of being that progressively results when we allow the Good of God to flow fully and freely into, through, and as our lives.

What does Religious Science believe about Hell?

Hell is neither a physical place nor even a spiritual place. It is simply the state of being that progressively results when we fail to allow the Good of God to flow fully and freely into, through, and as our lives. Usually this is done by holding false and negative beliefs in mind.

Do You Believe in the Devil?

There is only one Power in the universe, that Power is God, and that Power is always Good. Therefore, the devil simply cannot exist as a force acting in opposition to God. So, there really is no devil. There is only the manifestation of falsely held beliefs within our minds, which can produce the appearance of some sinister invisible force, or being, acting in our lives. To blame unpleasant conditions and circumstances on the devil, or on anyone else, is in reality a way of avoiding responsibility for our own experience of life.

Are There Other Churches with Similar Teachings and Beliefs?

There is a great deal of similarity of beliefs and teachings among Religious Science, Unity Churches, and Divine Science . On the other hand, some organizations with similar-sounding names, such as Scientology and Christian Science, are not similar, and Religious Science is not connected with them in any way.
